Tord Boontje was born in Enschede, Netherlands in 1968. He first studied industrial design at the famous Design Academy of Eindhoven and later got his masters from the Royal College of Art in London. In 1996 he founded Studio Tord Boontje.
Tord Boontje believes in a delicate marriage of design with emotion that is as broadly accessible as it is enticing. He draws from the belief, that "modernism does not mean minimalism, contemporary does not forsake tradition, and technology does not abandon people and senses" His designs often temper edges with softness, borrow inspiration from nature and employ a decor of forms and layers to engage and entice an observer's imagination and emotions.

Designed by Tord Boontje and made of Tyvek a very strong synthetic paper, the Midsummer Light is much more robust than its flighty, delicate lines might lead you to think. The Midsummer Light comes with a cone-shaped plastic safety protector which prevents the paper from coming into contact with the light bulb.
The Midsummer Light has a drop of approximately 70cm.
